Port Luis Diesel Power Plant

Scope of the project

The 37 MW Port Louis Diesel Power Plant, located in Mauritius, was a particularly significant project for IPROCEL, not only because of its technical component, but also because of its geographical context. Coming from an island such as Gran Canaria, IPROCEL brought to the project a deep understanding of the operational particularities of isolated power grids, such as those that exist in island environments, where system stability, supply quality and responsiveness are of particular relevance.
In this case, the client was ABB and the project was successfully completed in 2000; the scope included:
Verification of medium and low voltage auxiliary electrical systems.
- Functional testing of diesel generator sets: starting, synchronisation, load regulation and emission control.
- Configuration of protection, local control and monitoring systems.
- Technical support during commissioning, grid connection and initial operation under different load conditions.
- Coordination with the grid operator to ensure stable integration in an isolated system with limited generation reserves.
IPROCEL's participation in Port Louis consolidated its experience in complex electrical environments and reaffirmed its ability to provide effective technical solutions in island systems, where the balance between generation and demand is particularly critical.
